Within this time period many things changed. World war two began and ended, bringing certain art styles or traditions to light. One example of this would be cartoons. These cartoons would depict real life experiences and show the American pubic current events in a very undertstandable and somwhat funny way. Cartoons were just another way for artists to translate real world problems into form of art. . Women were becoming very heavily seated in the art industry, becoming very successful. Towards the end of this period abstract took a hard hold on art in this time period, becoming very sought out and wanted by the public. Many styles were beginning to arise due to new cultural advances, such as long and smoothed strokes within paintings, which had been neglected to be used in paintings regularly since the mid 1800's in Great Britain.
Alice baber was an artist in the late 50's. She lived in New york and Paris and studied at Lindenwood College in St. Charles and Idiana University in Bloomington. She travelved the world giving lectures on her abstract art, becoming a very globally know art figure. She was some of the first and most successful abstract artists in the time period given. She used many variations of color in her works, she would add water to her acrylic paintings to give it a watercolor feel, it gave another way to use paint during this time period. Alice Baber was a very insparational female artist during this period, yet she is not very well known within the U.S. even though this is where she lived.

Kathleen Gemberling Adkison was another abstract artist in the late 50's. She studied at Cornish In Seattle in Washington under two very successful painters, Mark tobey and Leon Derbyshire. She stayed mostly in Seattle and in the cities surrounding it. Unlike Alice she did not tour the world, she displayed her artwork in galleries across Washington state. She used a variety or textures and brought a new light on how to use objects within art. She displayed many different styles of abstract, all holding a different meaning than what is on the surface. Kathleen held another way to interpret art and showed yet again that women in the art industry can be successful.

Rolff armstrong was born in Michigan in 1889, he moved to Detroit at age 10. He dropped out of highschool and began studying art at the Arts Institute of Chicago. After studying in chicago he moved to New York, to try and get some money to his name. He led the way of a new techinique using pastels and paint together to create a masterpiece. In the early days of his art he painted manly men, that soon changed into paintings very flamboyant and playful women. He was considered the best pin-up artist of his time, leading the way for women to be seen in art. He depicted flappers and many other beautiful women within his masterpieces. Rolff brought a new feminine beauty to art during this time period, sometimes making very patriotic paintings of women with flags, some in evening wear. These paintings all show us what the women of the time century wore and some of how they lived. He painted many famous people who would all vouch for him, saying he was an insparational artist, some saying the best of his time.
